AMD and Reverse Hyperthreading

The corresponding functionality has already been built into dual-core Athlon 64 X2 processors for Socket AM2 form-factor, the sources claim. To activate it customers will “only need to update the processor driver and the mainboard BIOS,” they say. Microsoft Corp. will reportedly even release a corresponding patch for the operating systems that will allow recognizing two cores of the Athlon 64 X2 as a single one.

According to sources and alleged preliminary test results, the CPU will be able to switch into this “combined” mode dynamically, depending on the type of the application. There is no secret that a lot of tasks still benefit from single-core CPUs more than they would from the dual-core processors working at lower nominal frequencies.

Dell Seen Rolling Out AMD-System in Sept

NEW YORK (AP) – Dell Inc. could roll out a desktop computer based on an Advanced Micro Devices Inc. chip as early as September, according to a Wall Street analyst.

The report comes less than a month after Dell Inc. said it would begin using chips made by Advanced Micro Devices Inc., spurning its longtime partner Intel Corp.

"Citigroup Investment Research has confirmed from industry sources that Dell will offer an AMD based desktop in September of this year. No details of box configuration are available. We note that AMD has recently expressed confidence that they will gain share in the second half of the year, and we point to this win as the basis for this confidence," Citigroup analyst Glen Yeung wrote in a note

Alienware purchase By Dell was billed as the way Dell would go AMD and still get all keep fabled concessions Intel gives them. However, AMD and Dell combo is too little too late. why u ask, check out these few links

Intel's Conroe looks like its going to be the leader in performance and price!! for the next few years. So till AMD has their next "ATI 9700 pro moment" Dell will probably position AMD in "lower end" systems.

Gates to leave day-to-day role at Microsoft

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) – Microsoft announced Thursday that chairman and co-founder Bill Gates will transition out of a day to day role at the company, effective July 2008, to spend more time working on his charitable foundation.

Gates will then work part-time at Microsoft (up $0.19 to $22.07, Charts) as chairman and technical advisor and will work full time for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the organization he founded with his wife, which focuses on global health and education.

First feature after feature was pulled out of Vista to the point where its now more like Windows XP V2. Then the Vista beta downloads caused more harm than good. Some people forgot they downloaded beta and are complianing all over. His other brainchild .NET is not yet mainstream in windows programming. In the new money areas of Web and Media, MS has been beaten by Google and Apple. Live.com and new WMP11 with MTV urge were suposed to change that again not complete.

Bill Gates greatest contribution to humanity, apart from all those free malaria treatments etc would be make computing accesible and convenient for everyone.

Airport: Murthy puts foot down, walks out
GOWDA SMEAR Murthy tells CM pains me that you were silent

Devegowda is politican – former prime minister of India [his political fortunes have nosedived since then, [his party split up…] and Narayan Murthy is the founder of infosys, billion dollar software company

Yet another example of politics killing good projects because their cronies didn’t get the contracts and such. The city is going to the dogs The roads no longer have pot holes they are craters now. The electricity is erratic. Theres no running water. The trafffic sucks. Life was much better when Krishna was the chief minister. He atleast got the ringroad done.

The issue here is “Rich” IT/BPO guys vs the “pro poor socialist” govt and by govt i mean Devegowda. He’s the guy keeping the coalation in place. He wants to whip up frenzy against “rich and arrogant” Software/BPO guys and get more votes. This is his way of saying “hey look i’m screwing the software guys making bgtime money too” so vote for me. The reality isveryone in Bangalore is fed up with the current situation. IT/BPO guys are ones talking about it.

If you haven’t guessed it by now, i live in bangalore 🙂 My commute took 35-45 mins from Malleshwaram to Whitefield a year back. Now, it takes 1.5 Hrs. By the time i reach my office, i’m half dead. If you dont think driving thro traffic, waterclogged roads, potholes, abandoned half built roads/flyovers is torture i dont know what is.

I’m sure many of us would gladly trade places with the terrorists in Guantanmo prison and make them live in Bangalore. Now that’d be a violation of geneva conventions and probably every human right you can think of.and i haven’t even started on water and electricity, but you get the picture
